The Rose-Red City & Desert Stars
Jordan is one of the Middle East's great travel destinations — a country of extraordinary ancient monuments, dramatic desert landscapes and legendary hospitality. At its heart is Petra, the rose-red Nabataean city carved from sandstone cliffs over 2,000 years ago.
The approach to Petra's Treasury (Al-Khazneh) through the narrow Siq gorge is one of travel's great reveal moments — a 1.2 km canyon of towering stone that suddenly opens onto a 40-metre-high carved facade. Beyond lie hundreds of tombs, temples, a colonnaded street, an amphitheatre and a monastery perched 800 steps above the valley floor.
This 6-day itinerary combines Petra with Wadi Rum's vast red desert (overnight in a Bedouin camp), the Dead Sea (the lowest point on earth), and the Roman city of Jerash — the best-preserved outside Italy.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrival in Amman
Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport. Transfer to hotel. Evening walk through Rainbow Street and up to the Citadel overlooking the city. Dinner in the old downtown. Overnight in Amman.
Jerash & Drive South
Morning visit to Jerash — one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. The colonnaded streets, oval forum and theatres are extraordinarily intact. Drive south through the Desert Highway to Petra. Check into lodge in Wadi Musa. Briefing. Overnight.
Petra — Full Day Exploration
Full day in the Rose-Red City. Enter through the Siq — the narrow 1.2 km gorge — and emerge at the Treasury. Explore the Colonnaded Street, Royal Tombs, Qasr al-Bint temple, and climb to the Monastery (Ad-Deir) with its sweeping desert views. Optional Petra by Night experience. Overnight in Wadi Musa.
Little Petra & Wadi Rum Desert
Morning at Little Petra (Siq al-Barid) — a quieter carved canyon. Drive to Wadi Rum — a UNESCO-listed wilderness of sandstone mountains, red sand dunes, ancient rock inscriptions and the silence of the deep desert. Afternoon 4WD safari. Overnight in a luxury Bedouin desert camp under a sky thick with stars.
Dead Sea Float
Drive north to the Dead Sea — the lowest point on earth at 430 metres below sea level. Float effortlessly in the salt-saturated water (10 times saltier than the ocean). Apply the famous black mineral mud. Sunset at the Dead Sea. Overnight at resort.
Amman & Departure
Morning drive to Amman. Optional final visit to the Roman Citadel or the Jordan Museum. Transfer to Queen Alia Airport for departure.
